Shapes from pressing

Pressing is a reshaping of a plastic body into a desired configuration.  The mold surfaces can be intricate and relatively deep relief.  Since plastic flow occurs the internal structure is stress-free and defect free providing an exceptionally strong product.

  • Cross-sections of 1-3 inches can be made
  • Feature tolerances approach from 0.010 inches wide up to 0.300 inches deep
  • Planar dimensions are inside a 24 X 30 inch rectangle
  • Depth must be less than 7 inches
  • Thicknesses down to 0.040 inches can be made, planar or simple repressing
  • Vias through a planar shape can be made approaching a 10:1 aspect ratio
  • Thin surface layers or multiple layers of different performance materials can be produced
  • Zero draft angles can be pressed

The formerly non-plastic engineered ceramic bodies are now formulated for hydro-plastic forming without organic fillers.  This allows firing shrinkage, after drying, to be minimal providing exceptional dimensional control.
